After eating your breakfast or preparing it to go, we will pick you up at 05:45 am at your hotel to board our private transportation and head to the Inca Trail checkpoint, km 82. Make sure you have your original passport and ISIC student card (if applicable). Hiking times are always approximate depending on weather conditions, group capacity and many other factors, but you will hike 2 to 3 hours before lunch. After lunch, we will hike past the village of Wayllabamba to our first campsite (3000 masl). This first day we hike to approximately 2380 masl with a short climb to a platform overlooking the Inca site Llactapata and reward you with magnificent views of La Veronica Mountain.

Approximately 14 km on foot – 6 hours.

This is the most difficult day as you hike from approximately 3000 masl to 4200 masl, the highest pass of this trek (Warmi Huañusca). You can walk at your own pace, stopping to catch your breath whenever you wish. You will find your energy gains once you continue to the Pacaymayo valley. Camping at 3600 masl. You can hire a porter from the village of Wayllabamba to carry your pack to the top of the pass; the price is negotiable. You must arrange and pay this money directly to the person carrying your items. Please check your belongings upon receipt at the end of this service.

This is the coldest night. + 2 / + 4 degrees Celsius (December); -3 / -5 degrees Celsius (June)

Approximately 12 km on foot – 7 hours.

Exceptionally beautiful due to the ruins and the incredible paved trail (and more importantly for your lungs, there is much more down than up!). There are approximately 2000 stairs down from Phuyupatamarca to Wiñaywayna, so be careful with your knees). If you have had knee or ankle injuries, an extra porter is recommended so that you don’t have excessive weight and stress your joints too much. Guided tours of all the ruins. Camping is generally at Wiñaywayna (2700 masl).

Take extra care of your personal belongings at this camp, as all campsites camp nearby. As usual, always keep your backpack with valuables with you. The only hot shower on the Inca Trail is on this third night in Wiñaywayna. There is a hostel near the campsite with a hot shower (you pay for the shower – additional), and a bar and restaurant where you can buy bottled water.

Approximately 16 km walk – 6 hours.

Get up very early to reach Intipunku, “The Sun Gate”, and see the first sun illuminating the majestic Machu Picchu. It is still a 20 minute walk from here to the famous view from the terraces at the end of the trail. It is recommended to take your pictures as soon as you arrive. Your visit to Machu Picchu should end between 10:30 and 11:00 and you have free time and to climb Huayna Picchu you have to pay and book in advance (a maximum of 400 hikers can climb this mountain per day). Or just collapse under a tree and reflect in silent awe at the mystery, architectural achievement and beauty of Machu Picchu.

In the afternoon return to Ollantaytambo by train, at the train station the bus will be waiting for us to return to Cusco.

*Very important: Check availability of the Inca Trail with our sales executives.

The Inca Trail is closed during February due to maintenance and rains. From March 1st you can reserve your spaces for the Inca Trail.

Although the Inca Trail is closed during this period, there are other options to visit Machu Picchu: (Example: Trains that go from Cusco to Machu Picchu, Salkantay Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, Inca Jungle trek to Machu Picchu among many).

Book in advance…

Although the regulations for Inca Trail Expeditions state that reservations must be made 5 days before the start date, it is advisable to do so in advance, the average in high season indicates that 90 days before the start there is no space, because only 500 people can enter per day, in order to protect both the Inca Trail and the Machu Picchu Sanctuary.
